Filing a Claim Against Citizens Insurance of Florida?

Read this true testimonial, to know what to do BEFORE you file an Insurance Claim!

Advocate Claims Public Adjusters had a recent customer, Doug K., with major water damage to his home. The damage came from a 250 gallon fish tank. When the large fish tank broke, the water poured out so vigorously, that it caused water damage and an electrical fire in his home! The customer then called Citizens insurance company to begin the claims process. It didn’t go well…

Problem #1: Citizens Insurance Co. made an offer that wouldn’t cover all the repairs to the home! After hearing their offer, Doug K. called us, Advocate Claims Public Adjusters, to get involved. Citizens Insurance Company then requested another inspection of the home, to address the many items that we pointed out! They had left out several items off of their damage estimate.

Problem #2: Citizens Insurance Company made more inspections, and took months to make a new offer! After their second inspection and months of waiting for a reasonable offer, Citizens Insurance finally made another offer to settle the claim. But, it still wasn’t enough…

Problem #3: Citizens Insurance Company’s second offer still wasn’t enough money for the customer to rebuild his home! Advocate Claims Public Adjusters informed Doug K. of the 3 options he had with his insurance policy: A non-binding mediation, a binding mediation, or hiring an attorney. He chose to use a binding mediation.

Homeowners Insurance Policy We showed Doug the insurance language that existed in his Citizens insurance policy. We explained the pros and cons of all his options. A binding mediation process is also an appraisal, (an alternative claim dispute process) and this seemed like a good option for him. Doug told us that his insurance agent never told him about any of these options.

Doug liked that that he could choose a way to solve this issue, and that he had options! As per Doug’s approval, we made a request to Citizens Florida Insurance Corporation to enter into appraisal.

Problem #4: Citizens Insurance Company Makes Their Own Rules! Citizens wrote back that they agreed to go to appraisal, with a set of conditions. (This policy was re-written last year!)

Citizens imposes a set of terms and conditions that you must agree to, or Citizens can refuse to go to appraisal. Either you agree to their terms, or sue them! The terms in their appraisal memorandum are so restrictive, that it undermines the whole process. They even ask you give up your legal rights to counsel! This unfair tactic is an attempt to discourage and intimidate their customers from receiving fair claim settlements. (All of these policy changes happen without the policy holder’s knowledge about it.)
